Teak vs Acacia vs Mango Wood: Which Is Best for UAE Homes?

Teak, acacia and mango are the three hardwoods you'll see most in Dubai furniture stores. Here's how they compare for UAE heat, humidity and everyday use.

Short answer: Teak is the most durable of the three and the best choice for outdoor furniture and pieces you want to last decades. Acacia is a strong, good-value option for indoor use. Mango wood is attractive and affordable but better kept indoors.

Teak

  • Strengths: very high natural oil content, so it resists moisture, pests and warping. Handles UAE heat and humidity well, indoors and outdoors.
  • Look: warm golden-brown, ageing to silver-grey outdoors if left untreated.
  • Best for: dining tables, outdoor furniture, lounge chairs, statement pieces.
  • Trade-off: higher price than most other hardwoods.

Acacia

  • Strengths: dense and hard-wearing with attractive grain. Usually priced below teak.
  • Look: varied grain with light-to-dark contrast.
  • Best for: indoor dining tables, sideboards and shelving.
  • Trade-off: less natural oil than teak, so outdoor pieces need regular sealing.

Mango wood

  • Strengths: affordable and sustainable, often from trees that no longer bear fruit.
  • Look: light to medium brown with soft, irregular grain.
  • Best for: indoor decor, side tables and casual furniture.
  • Trade-off: softer and more prone to moisture damage, so not ideal outdoors.

Which should you choose?

  • For outdoors or long-term investment: teak.
  • For indoor furniture on a budget: acacia.
  • For decor and lighter-use pieces: mango.
