How to Care for Teak Furniture in the UAE

Why teak suits the UAE

Teak is a dense hardwood with high natural oil content. Those oils help it resist moisture and pests, and keep it stable through heat and humidity. That's why it has long been used for boat decks and outdoor furniture, and why it is one of the best woods for homes in the Gulf.

Everyday care for indoor teak

• Dust with a dry or slightly damp soft cloth.
• Wipe up spills straight away, especially on dining and coffee tables.
• Use coasters and mats under hot dishes and glasses.
• Avoid placing pieces directly in front of AC vents or in strong window sun for long periods.
• Skip silicone sprays and harsh cleaners; they can leave a film on the wood.

Caring for outdoor teak

• Let it silver, or keep it golden: outdoor teak naturally turns silver-grey over a few months. This is purely cosmetic. To keep the original tone, clean it and apply teak oil or a teak sealer once or twice a year.
• Clean after dusty weeks: rinse off sand and dust, then wash with mild soap and a soft brush along the grain.
• Cover during sandstorms: breathable covers protect the surface without trapping moisture.
